Design & Innovation
The Design and Innovation program for Grades 11 & 12, focuses on effectively introducing learners to the world of design- its fundamentals, relevant fields, and observing surroundings- objects, services and experiences to critique and explore methods of inventing/ reinventing to problem solve.
Students will be introduced to a variety of media and techniques, skills- sketching, digital mediums, mixed media representations, effective communication, self-management, etc. This program will also introduce and promote socially responsible practices of solving problems within the Sustainable Development Goals, UN.
Learning Area Purpose:
The Design and Innovation program equips learners to:- explore sensory, cognitive and social abilities.
- create awareness through observation, discovery, analysis, experience, collaboration and reflection
- nurture curiosity and exploratory abilities
- foster creativity and innovation
- Identify problems and be able to find solutions and apply Design Thinking process and methods to solve various problems
Key Learning Experiences:
- Applied Creative Thinking:
- Demonstrate the use of simple tools in the creative process.
- Apply creative thinking to solve socially relevant problems.
- Communication Proficiency:
- Evaluate and present approaches and judgments in the design process through various communication skills.
- Design Skills Proficiency:
- Freehand drawing.
- Understand and apply orthographic projection in design, drawing three principal orthographic views of an object.
- Design Thinking Mastery:
- Understand and apply Design Thinking systems and processes for solving real-world problems.
- Research, iterate, and prototype solutions for user testing.
- Present and defend opinions through critical judgment based on a set of criteria.
- Design Tools and Techniques:
- Working on Basic Materials such as Wood, Fabric, Plastic and Metal
- Product Design and Digital Workshop:
- Includes Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and In-Design.
