Our Schools

Ekya / June 29, 2023 Posted by : administrator

On 13th June 2023, the school launched the second edition of the Love to Read program. A year-long event to further enhance students’ interest in reading. As a part of this event, each month, students are asked to read a book of a particular genre and then do a fun activity.

The event was launched with style and creativity. It was both fun and interesting for the viewers, who were also able to meet 2 authors, Ms Archana Raghunath and Ms Pronomita Prasad.

On Tuesday morning, students from grades one to eight gathered in the amphitheatre to watch the Inaugural event. The stage had been decorated with a few slogans, posters and creative designs. The event started with a small prayer by Saraswati of grade 6B, followed by an introduction.

Our Head of School, Ms Sreepriya, was then invited onto the stage to launch the event in a very innovative manner. From a coloured box named ‘The box of magic’, she pulled out a variety of books of numerous genres, showing the students the various types of books that are added to the library collection.  The Harry Potter illustrated version received the loudest cheer of the bunch. This introduction reflected one of the main aims of the Love to Read program – introduction to many genres.

After this, ma’am revealed the logo for the program. A truly genius design. It contained an ‘L’ with a short base, and a 2, written similarly to the way it is written in Hindi. Both the characters were put side by side, combining to form the letter ‘R’. The logo totally represented the acronym L2R(love to read).

After the inauguration. My classmate Thrayee and I performed a short conversation. Here we explained the aims and procedure of the Love to Read program and also revealed the theme of the month(June) – Funny Pages. This was followed by a talk from the school editor Aditi Revankar of grade 10B, who expressed her passion for reading.

The moments between these presentations were made fun of by the audience. The anchor(Jaanvi – 9A) asked them some tough literature questions and also gave them some interesting fun facts.

Finally came the long-awaited moment, the talk from our guests. Well-known children’s authors Ms Archana Raghunath and Ms Pronomita Prasad.

They started by expressing their passion for reading and the impact of literature on their lives. They then read one of their stories about three trolls, a delight for the lower grades and a silly laugh for the older children. After a short interactive period, they went on to discuss the importance of reading and put forth some seldom-discussed points

Other than the usual points of creative skills and vocabulary, they discussed other eye-opening advantages, which gave people more positive insights into reading. Like how books can help you experience situations you can’t in real life. And if you ever face that situation in real life, you are prepared. They also talked about how books teach you empathy, communication, and foreign cultures.

The program ended with a surprise for the students. Passionate readers from grade 8 took this opportunity to announce a  Reading Centre, a cozy reading space on the middle school floor. An idea that they came up with and executed by themselves.
Overall, the launch of the Love to Read program was a well-executed event. It reflects the school’s emphasis on reading, as well as the students’ love for reading. It was a worthy inauguration of an initiative that will hopefully open a whole new world of reading to the students of Ekya JP. Nagar.

The Power of Learning with Intent: A Guide to Purposeful Education

In a world brimming with information, the art of learning has evolved beyond the mere acquisition of facts. Learning with intent, a deliberate approach to education emphasises quality over quantity, depth over breadth, and purpose over passive absorption. It’s about cultivating a mindset that transforms knowledge into meaningful action and empowers individuals to navigate the complexities of the modern age effectively.

At its core, learning with intent involves setting clear objectives and actively engaging with the subject matter. Whether exploring a new language, delving into scientific principles, or honing a creative skill, intentionality infuses each learning endeavour with purpose and direction. As Albert Einstein aptly said, "The only source of knowledge is experience." This quote amplifies the importance of active participation and hands-on learning, highlighting that true understanding arises from deliberate engagement with the material.

Furthermore, engaging actively with the material is paramount. Embrace challenges and embrace mistakes as opportunities for growth. This proactive approach not only deepens your understanding but also cultivates critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for success in any field.

Moreover, learning with intent emphasises relevance and applicability. Seek out opportunities to apply newfound knowledge in real-world scenarios, bridging the gap between theory and practice. By contextualising learning within your personal or professional sphere, you enhance its significance and utility, making it more likely to stick.

In conclusion, learning with intent is a transformative approach that transcends traditional notions of education. By setting clear objectives, engaging actively, prioritising relevance, and fostering a growth mindset, individuals can harness the full potential of learning to achieve their goals and thrive in an ever-changing world. So, embark on your learning journey with purpose, and let each lesson propel you towards a brighter, more fulfilling future.

Gadget-free Summer Break

With summer vacation around, I urge parents to explore various ways to facilitate children to make healthy choices during their vacation time.

Last week, when we asked our Early Years to visualise their characters and create a story, most of them came up with stories about ghosts and monsters attacking others.  When we had conversations about what gave them this idea, we understood that these story ideas emanated from their online games. While gaming per se develops specific skills and requires focus, it also stifles the imagination of young children. Since it is visually appealing, children tend to remember those images in their heads all the time.

I often see parents providing very young children (1 year to 3 year olds)  with gadgets as the means to keep children engaged and entertained. I see children watching phones in the waiting areas of clinics, hospitals, school lobbies and banks.

This brings us to a fundamental question “ Should children be engaged by parents all the time?” Not necessarily. What is likely to happen if children were not handed over gadgets at the waiting lounges? What would they do? Some of them may cry, some may throw a loud tantrum, and some may crib. If parents show resilience and allow children to settle down themselves, they will soon find ways to keep themselves engaged. Likewise, during summer vacation. What if this is a “no gadget” vacation and parents do not take up the responsibility to engage their children? What would children do? How can parents show resilience here and facilitate children to make healthy choices? I leave the readers with this thought for this summer vacation.

The Eye of the Storm

In the hushed embrace of an Indian evening, our journey began, a symphony of anticipation orchestrated by the hum of jet engines and the flutter of boarding passes. The promise of adventure beckoned from distant shores as we boarded our flight bound for the United Kingdom, our hearts aflutter with dreams of far-off lands and newfound horizons. But as we soared through the velvet sky, a foreboding shadow loomed on the horizon, a harbinger of the chaos that was soon to unfold. In the blink of an eye, the tranquil serenity of our airborne sanctuary was shattered by a deafening crack, a burst of purple lightning that danced across the heavens with an otherworldly fervour. The air crackled with electricity as the plane shuddered beneath the force of the storm, its metal frame quivering in defiance against the tempestuous onslaught. And then, in a heart-stopping moment of sheer terror, the heavens unleashed their fury upon us, casting our fragile vessel into a maelstrom of chaos and uncertainty. The sky darkened to a shade of ominous charcoal as the winds howled with a primal ferocity, tearing at the wings of our faltering craft with savage intent. The cabin was awash with panicked cries and frantic prayers as we clung to our seats with white-knuckled desperation, each passing moment stretching into eternity.

And then, as if mocking our feeble attempts at control, the plane tilted almost 180 degrees, its nose plummeting towards the earth with a sickening lurch. Time seemed to stand still as we hurtled towards the ground, our fate hanging in the balance as the world spun wildly out of control. But just when all hope seemed lost, a glimmer of salvation emerged from the chaos, a beacon of light amidst the encroaching darkness. With a mighty roar, the engines surged to life once more, their thunderous symphony drowning out the cacophony of the storm as we clawed our way back from the brink of oblivion. As the storm clouds parted and the sun cast its golden rays upon the horizon, we emerged battered but unbroken, our spirits buoyed by the triumph of the human spirit in the face of adversity. And though our journey had been fraught with peril and uncertainty, we emerged from the crucible of the skies stronger and more resilient than ever before. For in the crucible of adversity, we discovered the true measure of our strength, our courage, and our unwavering determination to defy the odds and chart our course through the tempestuous seas of life. As we touched down on solid ground once more, I couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of the world around us, a testament to the indomitable spirit of the human soul.

#TeacherBlogger: THE MAGIC SPELL OF GRATITUDE By Ashwini K C, Ekya School, JP Nagar

Education systems play a pivotal role in shaping the lives of students, moulding their intellect, character, and future prospects. Over the years, these systems have undergone significant changes, reflecting societal advancements and evolving educational philosophies. The impact of these changes on students has been profound, altering their learning experiences, skills development, and overall growth.

Enhanced Learning Experiences:

One of the key impacts of changing education systems is the enhancement of learning experiences. Traditional approaches centred on rote memorisation and passive learning have given way to student-centred methodologies. These methodologies emphasise active participation, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Students are now encouraged to explore, question, and engage with the subject matter, fostering a deeper understanding and retention of knowledge.

Holistic Skill Development:

With the changing education systems, there has been a shift towards holistic skill development. Beyond academic knowledge, students are now equipped with essential life skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, and adaptability. The emphasis is placed on nurturing well-rounded individuals who are prepared to tackle real-world challenges.

Inclusivity and Diversity:

Another significant impact is the increased focus on inclusivity and diversity within education systems. Schools now strive to create inclusive environments that embrace students from different backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles. This promotes a sense of belonging and encourages mutual respect, preparing students for a diverse global community.

Preparation for the Future:

Changing education systems are also geared towards preparing students for the demands of the future. With the rapid pace of technological advancements and the evolving job market, students need to develop relevant and adaptable skills. Modern education systems integrate technology, digital literacy, and critical thinking, enabling students to navigate the digital age and thrive in a constantly changing world.

The impact of changing education systems on students is far-reaching and transformative. From enhanced learning experiences and holistic skill development to promoting inclusivity and preparing for the future, these changes have revolutionised the way students learn and grow. As education systems continue to evolve, it is crucial to prioritise the needs of students, ensuring that they receive a well-rounded education that equips them with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to succeed in a dynamic and interconnected world.

#StudentBlogger: Len Aiyappa – Head Boy Ekya ITPL 23-24 By Len Aiyappa MS, Grade 12A, Ekya Schools, ITPL

Greetings, everyone! It is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to introduce myself as the newly elected Head Boy of Ekya ITPL. My name is Len Aiyappa M.S, and I am privileged to have been entrusted with this role, where I will strive to serve and represent each of you with dedication and integrity.

On my first day in Ekya, I was shy and kept to myself most of the time, but after I made great friends and teachers who supported me and made me laugh, I began to open up and talk more to others, skip a few years and here I am, being the head boy. Leadership should reflect service, so my primary goal is to support, inspire, and uplift every school member. One of my core duties as Head Boy is to foster a collaborative environment that encourages teamwork, as it was those group activities that got me comfortable around others when I was new to the school.

Leadership has challenges, and the road ahead may be demanding. However, I am eager to face these challenges head-on, viewing them as opportunities for personal growth and development. I see myself not as a figure of authority but as a partner in your individual and collective success. My door is always open for your thoughts, concerns, and suggestions. Whether it is academic support, extracurricular activities, or personal well-being, know I am here to listen and support you in any way I can.

As I embark on this journey as Head Boy, I am humbled and excited by the responsibility entrusted to me.
