    The Ekya Learning Center is a team of dynamic, forward thinking individuals that chart Ekya’s future steps. They bring research, pedagogic approaches and curricular advancements from around the world into Ekya classrooms.

    In this changing world, we can no longer expect students to learn how we did 10 years ago. Curriculum, instruction, assessment and culture must be relevant and context-driven. Ekya believes in structuring learning experiences that challenge the students and harbor a quest for mastery. Through intentional planning, the Ekya Learning Center pilots, tests and implements curricular changes and interventions.

     

    Ahlada Janani Sudersan

    Ms. Ahlada designs the Computers curriculum for Ekya, and also teaches Computer Science to senior school at our ITPL campus, and has been a part of Ekya since its inception in 2012. She is passionate about preparing students for the demands of the future, and believes that we need to gear our education to create innovators and thinkers who can tackle the challenges of an increasingly tech-dependant world. She researches existing digital platforms and curricula that are being used across the world, and on methods of technological integration into education that will maintain a balance between traditional schooling and modern tools.

    Prior to her work with Ekya, Ms. Ahlada worked in the field of electric power, to perform predictive analysis using artificial intelligence. She also designed and simulated AI models for pattern recognition, and worked briefly as a data analyst. She carries a B.E in Electronics and Instrumentation from Madras University, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University, a certification in SAS training, and a B.Ed. Ms. Ahlada is an avid reader and also enjoys dabbling with watercolours and acrylics when she finds the time.

     

    Aruna Reddy

    "The best teachers are those that tell you where to look
    but don’t tell you what to see."

    Ms. Aruna Reddy believes that students should have opportunities to apply their learning and see the connections between different disciplines. At Ekya, she focuses her time on building project-based coursework, documenting curricular transactions and conducting workshops on teaching and assessment. She is a strong believer in need for interdisciplinary study that is dovetailed by application focused assessment rather than memorizing content. Ms. Reddy, during her six and a half year tenure at Rishi Valley School, taught Biology and Chemistry in the classroom, Hindustani classical music to a select group of students, and led the weekly sessions of International Folk Dance. Later, as a founder teacher and coordinator at Presidency School for four years, she also taught Biology and English at middle school level.

    Outside the classroom, she is an avid gardener and leads student groups to do research and tag all the plants in the school with their botanical and common names. Ms. Reddy has a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Mumbai and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from IGNOU. She has attended various workshops on CCE, Teaching English, and has recently completed the Teaching for Understanding course conducted by Harvard University. Ms. Reddy, apart from having a green thumb, is a serious student of Hindustani classical music, and enjoys cooking and travelling.

     

    Ashika Thusu

    Ms. Thusu does the groundwork research content and curriculum development for the Early Years at Ekya. Her target areas include handwriting skills, language competencies, reading expectations and life skills curriculum necessary for early learners. Her goal is to provide, facilitate and encourage  educators to succeed as progressive individuals and scale up the standards of preschool education. She believes in providing students and teachers alike with the skills and tools needed to transcend beyond their capacity. Early childhood experiences form the foundation of how we grow into adults and succeed as individuals is the theory that drives her vision in early education.

    Ms. Thusu’s role at Ekya is to keep abreast of the changes and challenges faced in the classrooms and offer reasonable solutions while yet not lowering the standards of education that students deserve. She holds a Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University with a focus on early years and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Bangalore University.

    Her inspiration for early years education comes from the thought that young children can teach us a few if not many new curious things in our world and provide opportunities for adults to become children again while schooling them.

     

    Baishakhi Roy

    Ms. Baishakhi Roy works at the Ekya Learning Centre to design and develop the Social Science Curriculum. She is passionate about using the study of humanities to create global thinkers and responsible citizens. She believes that education needs to move beyond the boundaries of the textbook, and is building a curriculum to match that aim. Prior to her current position, she worked as a social studies teacher for close to fifteen years. A self-driven person, her love for the social sciences is matched by her determination and proactive work ethic.

    Ms. Roy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education, and a Master’s degree in History from Calcutta University. She is passionate about caring for our planet, and lives a lifestyle that represents that. She enjoys reading, watching films, and travelling.

     

    Indukala Devi V.S.

    Ms. Indukala works as Tech Support for Ekya Schools. She generates the report cards for all our campuses, and maintains the Ekya website. She is a meticulous worker, who ensures that everything is done perfectly. Prior to her work at Ekya, she worked for over eight years as a software engineer.

    Ms. Indukala holds a Bachelors in Technology, with a specialization in Information Technology from Kerala University. Ms. Indu is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and a veena player. Her positive attitude and hard work make her an integral part of the Ekya family.

     

    Gauri Santosh

    Ms. Gauri Santosh is a dynamic and spirited individual. At Ekya, she is involved in developing the science curriculum for primary school. In the past she has been involved in developing workbooks and modules for varied subject areas, formulating lesson plans, and standardising question papers.

    Ms. Gauri seeks to develop curriculum and teaching methodologies that incorporate the ever-changing demands of our fast-paced world.
    She carries a B.Sc. in Microbiology, a B.Sc. with honours in Biotechnology, a B.A. with honours in Human Resources,a B.Ed. and an M.A, in English.

     

    Mousumi Choudhury

    Mrs. Choudhury works on the Mathematics program for Ekya Early Years. She has been a part of the teaching community at Ekya ITPL since 2012. Prior to her current role, Ms. Choudhury has worked with Ekya as a teacher, and has developed the Reading Program for Primary and Middle School. An articulate speaker and empathetic listener, Mrs. Choudhury is a passionate educator who embodies the spirit of a lifelong learner.

    Mrs. Choudhury holds a Bachelors of Commerce from Mumbai University, a an LL.B from Mumbai University, and a Bachelors of Education from Lucknow University. Ms. Choudhury’s area of expertise was company law, prior to turning to the field of education.

    Mrs. Choudhury is an athlete who represented her State during her school years. She is a long distance runner even today, and takes part in half-marathons and 10k runs in and around Bangalore. Mrs. Choudhury is also an avid reader and enjoys gardening.

     

    Pooja Arya

    Ms. Pooja Arya develops the English curriculum for Primary School. Pooja has always been fascinated by the ‘processes’ of learning and teaching. Her quest, first as a researcher and then as a special educator, have been to explore the best inclusive pedagogic practices used in a classroom. Pooja worked at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi as a researcher on autism for two years, before working as a special educator in Vasant Valley School in Delhi for 1 year, and Bangalore International School for 3 years.

    Ms. Pooja carried a Bachelor’s in Elementary education from the University of Delhi, a Masters in Linguistics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and an M.Phil in Applied Linguistics from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Ms. Pooja has also qualified for the National Eligibility Test for Lectureship (NET) in Linguistics conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC). She is a hardworking and determined educator, who brings a positive and cheerful attitude to the workplace. Ms. Pooja loves children and is an avid traveler. She has backpacked to more than thirty countries so far and is set on a mission to explore best language pedagogies, inclusive education practices, different cultures and food.

     

    Poonam Shaw

    Ms. Poonam designs the Hindi curriculum for all Ekya Schools. She has worked as a teacher at CMRNPS school for over 11 years, teaching Hindi to students from grades 1 to 10. Ms. Poonam carries a B.A. from St. Joseph’s College in Bangalore, a B.Ed. from Bangalore University, and an M.A. in Hindi from Karnataka Open University in Mysore. Ms. Poonam is a quick learner, and is passionate about students being fluent communicators in multiple languages.

    Aside from work, Ms. Poonam enjoys cooking, gardening and reading short stories.

     

    Shobha Sivaramakrishnan

    Ms. Shobha Sivaramakrishnan is the earliest member of the Ekya Learning Center and is known for her positive and ‘can-do’ attitude. Ms. Sivaramakrishnan believes that the process of learning and not the product, is the sign of a good education system. She also believes in the development of essential life skills in children by fostering a creative learning environment and in inculcating reflective practices in students will help them become critical thinkers who can face challenging real world situations.

    Her role at Ekya includes developing programs of work, implementing comprehensive evaluation modules across campuses and contributing to curricular changes throughout the year. As part of the teacher orientation program, she conducts workshops on visual thinking and the documentation of learning material through portfolio management. She is self-taught Google Apps advocate and helps the Ekya community use online tools for technology-rich learning. Ms. Sivaramakrishnan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Home Science, a Bachelor’s degree in Education, and a Diploma in interior design. She has also attended the Teaching for Understanding course conducted by the Wide World Foundation developed by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is a gifted artist and a doting mother of two.

     

    Supriya Punyamurthula

    An enthusiastic learner, Ms. Supriya Punyamurthula believes that learning Mathematics can be made easy and fun by relating to the real world as several concepts, patterns and laws are observed in nature. At Ekya Learning Center, Ms. Supriya designs and develops the Mathematics curriculum with the aim to bring out critical and analytical thought process in the child.

    Numbers aren’t her only strength – a computer wizard passionate about Computer Science, Ms. Supriya also takes Senior Secondary classes in the subject. Known for her diligence and commitment, Ms. Supriya has five years of experience as a facilitator in Mathematics and Computer Science. Prior to her role at Ekya, she was the Academic Coordinator for Assessments at CMR National Public School where she handled all CBSE related activities and oversaw external competitive examinations – Olympiads, NSTSE, NTSE to name a few.

    Before coming into the scholastic environment, Ms. Supriya was based out of Singapore and the United States of America, with fifteen years of experience in corporate training. As a regional manager, she was put in charge of Asia-Pacific countries of Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines. Ms. Supriya holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Osmania University and is currently pursuing Master of Computer Applications from IGNOU.
