The students of Grade VII of Ekya JP Nagar made soap bars in the Laboratory as part of their Chemistry project. The soap making involves a simple activity of combining vegetable oil, water and caustic soda, a process known as Saponification.
On the first day, the students took 25 grams of Caustic Soda and dissolved it in water. The following day, they mixed Vegetable Oil and the aqueous solution of Caustic Soda and kept it aside for about 3 to 4 days. Once it thickened and was set, the students were excited to have the soap bars in their hands. The students enjoyed doing this activity as it connects Chemistry to real life.
