Managing Director, Ekya Schools | Vice President, CMR Group of Institutions
Ms. Ramamurthy founded Ekya Schools to bring pedagogically sound, research-based learning experiences to India. She spearheads K-12 initiatives under the CMR Group, overseeing state board, CBSE, ICSE and pre-university institutes, with an overall strength of 7500 students. Ms. Ramamurthy brings cutting edge educational advancements to Ekya through her exposure to the principles of the Project Zero Classroom from Harvard University, inquiry based learning from the Reggio Emilia approach in Italy, and design thinking from the Stanford d.school.
Ms. Ramamurthy holds a Bachelor’s degree from Singapore Management University and a Master’s degree from the Stanford University School of Graduate Education. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Education from King’s College, London. Her past research has focused on topics including educational equity, teacher motivation, education policy and curriculum construction.
Senior Director, Academics
Ms. Sharmila Choudhury is the Senior Director at Ekya Schools overseeing the implementation of academic programs and ensuring smooth functioning of all school processes. Her key focus remains on maintaining quality in the teaching-learning process to foster a culture of academic excellence. Mrs. Choudhury has served as an educator for close to three decades and brings this experience to mentor school leadership including Heads of Schools, coordinators, and faculty leads. She has served as a teacher, administrator and more recently as the Vice Principal of CMR National Public School before taking on her current role at Ekya.
Mrs. Choudhury believes that education must be in step with the evolving needs of society. She believes that education must empower individuals to become thinkers, changemakers, risk-takers and problem solvers who aim to build a better world.
Director, Strategy and Technology
Mr. Sriram Sabhapathy leads Strategy for Ekya Schools. Spearheading this role, he is actively involved in enabling Ekya for growth, taking Ekya through the technology journey in academic, administrative and operational fronts.
Mr. Sabhapathy has a deep passion for education. Having worked with growing organisations such as Deeksha (Ace Creative Learning) and XSEED, his professional areas of interest include helping institutes scale with quality and creating technology solutions to improve outcomes for students and educators. Sriram holds an MBA from the Indian School of Business and is an Economics Honors undergraduate from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. Before his MBA, Sriram worked as a consultant with Ernst and Young (EY) for five years and also led operations for an education non-profit organization in Chennai.
Head, Research and School Programs
Ms. Natasha Joshi heads Research and School Programs at Ekya. She looks at various academic and co-academic aspects of school education that form the basis for holistic learning. She is interested in elevating the overall school experience and relies on a design based approach to understand the impact of programs. Ms. Joshi holds a Bachelors degree in Economics from the Singapore Management University and a Masters degree in Education from Harvard University. She has served as an Education Specialist for multiple years with UNICEF followed by a central government position at NITI Aayog, and brings with her an understanding of how strong school systems work.
S. K. Balaraman
Head, Security and IT; Registrar, CMR University
Mr. Balaraman serves as the Director of Examinations, Systems and Security for CMR Group of Institutions, and as Registrar at CMR University. At Ekya, Mr. Balaraman ensures that high security measures are maintained. Having served in the uniformed services of the Central and State Governments for close to 35 years, Mr. Balaraman has acquired expertise in security and the implementation of technology. He was instrumental in the computerisation of the Karnataka State Police, making it a model State for the rest of the country to follow shortly after. He has also contributed to the Border Security Force, Special Protection Group, Karnataka State Police and to the Birla Institute of Technology at Mesra, Ranchi during his years of service.
Mr. Balaraman carries a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Madras University and an M.Sc. in Space Engineering and Rocketry from Ranchi University. He has also worked as the Vice President of Law Enforcement Solutions for 4G Identity Solutions in Hyderabad, looking after criminal identity solutions using fingerprint technology, and retired from the police force as the Inspector General of Police for the Karnataka State Police.
U. P. Shivaram Reddy
Chief Administrative Officer, CMR Group of Institutions
Mr. Reddy oversees all aspects concerning transportation and smooth functioning of ancillary services at CMR Groups of Institutions. He brings 39 years of dedicated service with the Karnataka State Police to enable efficient implementation of numerous Ekya processes. He has held many positions, including Superintendent of Police, Karnataka Lokayukta; and Superintendent of Police, Anti-Terrorist Cell, Bangalore. He has represented India in the United Nation Peacekeeping Mission in the Republic of Kosovo as a Civil Police Officer. Mr. Reddy has received the Chief Minister’s Police Medal in 1989, the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service in 2001, the United Nations Peacekeeping Force Medal in the Republic of Kosovo in 2003, and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2011.
Mr. Reddy carries a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Mysore, and a Bachelor of Law degree from Bangalore University. He is a passionate patron of organic and sustainable farming, and is an avid nature lover. Mr. Reddy enjoys classical Indian music.
